J. Michael Kelly wins UIM World Championship in Doha

J. Michael Kelly in the U-7 Graham Trucking won his first hydroplane final in grand fashion, passing an ailing U-16 Ellstrom Elam Plus in the final lap to win the inaugural Oryx Cup UIM World Championship.
Steve David in the U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto finished second giving him enough points to lay claim to both the team and driver H1 Unlimited National High Points Championship and retain the coveted U-1 designation for the 2010 season.
Villwock in the U-16 had engine difficulty after a bumpy ride through the west turn on the second lap and the usually strong charging orange and blue hull started to compression stall and yellow flame came through the tailpipe. He managed to hold off Kelly until the final lap.
The final heat was rerun after Jeff Bernard in the U-5 Formulaboats.com flipped during in its initial running. Bernard was talking with the media and the crowd in Doha and appears to be fine.

Dan Foard was part of the crew from Tampa Digital that provided the EXCELLENT live video streaming from the ABRA/H1 Unlimited final race in Doha, Qatar. Dan spent seven days in Qatar and ran the hand-held cameras during interviews and fixed cameras during qualifications and racing. 2009 Coronado Speed Festival

The Coronado Speed Festival is set against the stunning backdrop of San Diego Bay and will feature 280 of the world’s most unique and pedigreed machines at one of the most distinctive racecar locations – Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of Naval Aviation.
The Coronado Speed Festival is produced by HMSA in association with the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation and hosted by the Naval Base Coronado and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program (MWR) which benefits military personnel and their families.
2009 SOVREN Fall Finale

The weather is still sunny as SOVREN holds the final event of the racing season at Pacific Raceways (PR). This event, the Fall Finale, is an annual event with approximately 140 pre-1970 racecars that have been restored to mint condition. This race is highlighted with some unusual types of races, including LeMans style starts, One hour Enduros, Lollipop Starts, and Handicap races.

In our constant quest to make Northwest Speedshots one of the coolest motorsports photography and video destinations on the internet, we’ve added one of the coolest features yet! You can now not only view all of our galleries with the Cooliris browser plugin, but you can also browse and purchase the high resolution SmugMug images directly from our galleries. Cooliris allows you to view thousands of images on a continuous “wall” that stretches seemingly into infinity( top image at left), and allows you to “fly” from one end of the gallery to the other in seconds.
The links to the SmugMug galleries will always be located below the main
image “wall”. Once you’ve opened the high resolution SmugMug galleries in a new Cooliris window, you can then do many more things: view each image in a MUCH larger format (at right) than is possible in our flash-based Cooliris galleries, or start a slideshow of all images in the gallery. If you maximize your browser window and view in “full screen mode” (hit F11 in Internet Explorer), the effect is stunning!
If you see an image you’d like to purchase, click the image to bring up the larger view, then click the “Go to webpage” link (at left) in the bottom right corner to go to that image in SmugMug where you can choose your options and purchase that image. It really couldn’t be any easier! We will generally post a “Best of” gallery featuring what we consider to be the best images of the event, and a “Rest of” gallery containing the remainder. Feel free to browse and order from either gallery. Due to licensing restrictions, some event images will not be available for purchase, but still look incredible in the Cooliris browser, so we added them for your enjoyment. GoPro has posted some pre-production footage from the upcoming HD Hero at http://www.goprocamera.com/hdheropreview In addition to stunning HD quality video, the HD Hero includes three different resolutions: 1080p, 960p, and 720p, allowing mind-blowing wide-screen HD (1080) or super wide-angle HD (960 & 720) and even slow-motion in the 720p mode! Among other things, they have dramatically improved the sound recording capabilities and added the ability to record on up to 32GB SD cards and a rechargeable battery to boost record time to over 2 hours.
