November weather in Washington State can be, to say the least, a bit depressing. 2007 was no exception, featuring a more-direct-than-usual segue from summer to winter. Rain, windstorms...; gross. So when the ULHRA announced that the Unlimited Lights would be putting on an exhibition-race at Firebird Lake in Phoenix in conjunction with the IHBA Dragboats, I didn't need to agonize long over the decision to attend. As an added benifit, the NASCAR race at Phoenix International Raceway was happening one week prior. Eleven days in the sun. Cool. Thanks to fellow NW SpeedShots photographer, Bob Pengrath, I was able to attend the NASCAR race as a credentialed photographer. The 'Lights presence at Firebird was very well received, far surpassing my expectations. Boat-shooting, however, was just a bit different from the usual fare. The normal, aired-out hydroplane shots were virtually non-existant, since the lake's sloping, made-for-boatracing banks kept the water so flat. Here is the first of quite a few galleries from the trip; Unlimited Lights on beautiful Firebird Lake. To follow will be Nextel Cup, Busch, Craftsman Trucks, and IHBA Dragboats.
