The Whitewater Jetboat World Championships rotates between the US, Mexico, Canada, And New Zealand, visiting each country every four years. 2008 was the US's turn with competition taking place on various rivers in Southern Oregon, and Northern California, then winding up with a stop on Oregon's Kalamath Lake. While I had intended to shoot the stops in Hoopa, California, Grants Pass, Oregon , and Kalamath Lake, as things shook out, Grants Pass was the only portion I managed to attend.
Mother Nature refused to cooperate on the first day, providing overcast skys and intermittent drizzle, but the next day dawned clear and sunny, conditions which lasted just long enough to shoot both legs before giving way to more rain.
This year, I was accompanied by my gal, Linda, who shot the second half of the gallery. Also, I owe big thanks to fellow photographer Brandon McGinnins and his buddy Chris who got us to the inaccessable far-side of the river. If you get the chance, take a look at Brandon's website at
www.brandonmcginnis.com; he's really good.
