Snowmobiles...

Presented here is a collection of snowmobile shots from 2001, or thereabouts. Recorded with the old film equipement, the quality leaves something to be desired... Neither the equipment, nor the photographer were up to current standards. Some of the shots are a bit "soft" and most are pretty grainey (that's what we used to call 'noise' in the film days). To varying degrees, I could fix both, but, as a bit of a backwards-glance at how things used to be, I've opted to leave them be.
The Hill-Climb shots are from White Pass on April 8, 2001. The event was held at the ski resort on 'Execution'. It was the scariest race I've ever attended, as the sleds would disappear for the last few-hundred feet before cresting the top, at which point they sometimes were headed straight for me. It was also the site of some of the worst treatment I've ever experianced at the hands of the organizers, but that's a story for another day...
The Snow-Cross stuff was shot in the Lake Wenatchee vacinity on February 3, 2002. I think the grounds serve as an airport during the warmer seasons.
The Cross-Country race was held near Trout Lake, just west of Mt. Adams, on March 10, 2001. The course was about twenty miles long, so shooting consisted of long periods of boredom, punctuated by brief intervals of excitement as the sleds came by. Great folks, though...
Lastly, the Grass-Drags. Same folks as the Cross-Country race; seems they can't stand to park the sleds for the whole summer, so they gather at Harvey Field in Snohomish, Washington, and race on grass. 500' drag-strip, very cool. Photos are from September 15, 2001.
Now I've gotta get down to Koppert Lake and watch 'em "skip" those things...
